Aging In Stillness

Aging in Stillness explores the stages of aging through the lens of wabi-sabi.

 

Entering her 40s, Sanae felt the shock of physical and emotional change, followed by confusion, reflection, and eventually calm. This collection follows that journey: early works unsettled and questioning, then gradually embracing quiet confidence.

The later pieces carry femininity and elegance - as if she has rediscovered herself, shaped by new experience.

 

The visual language draws from pottery and natural materials - restrained palettes of ink black, mineral browns, and soft neutrals. Each work carries the texture of time: subtle layers, intentional irregularities, and quiet spaces that allow the eye to rest.

 

Like an antique object whose wear becomes its elegance, or a person whose years add depth, this collection reframes aging as another way of becoming beautiful.
